At 10:00 AM today, around 40-50 people were gathered in the audience of Judge Tom Fast's courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse to bear witness to a hearing for Sherie Titchenell.
Titchenell was sentenced in August of 2022, for child neglect resulting in the death of 8-year-old Raylee Browning. She, along with Marty Browning Jr. (Raylee's biological father) and Julie Titchenell Browning, was sentenced to 3-15 years in prison.
Titchenell's attorney had filed a Motion to Correct Sentence and Motion for Reduction of Sentence, due to the opportunity through West Virginia Rule of Criminal Procedure 35. That hearing was scheduled for today, October 19. The petitioner, Sherie Titchenell, was available with legal representation remotely, through Mircrosoft Teams.
Judge Fast addressed the court at approximately 10:15 AM, saying that he learned this morning that the State had failed to file a transport order for Titchenell so that she could be present in person. She is being held at Lakin Correctional Center in Mason County.
Judge Fast said that due to the magnitude of this hearing, Titchenell should have the opportunity to appear in public. He stated the hearing would be moved to another date to allow for her to be present in person.
The new hearing date is set for Wednesday, Oct 28 at 3:30 PM.
Update: 10.19.26 at 12:51 PM: The hearing date was rescheduled again. Original reporting for Friday, December 18, 2026 at 1:30 PM has been changed to Oct. 28 at 3:30 PM.
