Fayetteville Town Council Hears Complaints from Pride Organizers

At Thursday's meeting of the Fayetteville Town Council on July 2, organizers and supporters of the recent Pride Summer Camp, gathered to voice complaints about issues with parking for the event.  Shuttle services had been advertised by The Outpost, the host of the event, to be available at the Board of Education Parking lot.

However, Fayette County School Superintendent, David Warvel, stated in an earlier interview that he didn't know anything about the event and did not have a contract for shuttle services for Pride Summer Camp that included a drag queen dance party for 21+ years of age.  The parking lots were blocked and unavailable for use on June 20th, the day of the event.

The audience for the Town Council meeting on Thursday was a mix of Fayetteville residents and out-of-town guests, some traveling from as far away as Morgantown in order to express their support of events for all ages, based on sexuality. There were more than twenty people in attendance, some had to stand during the meeting.

Each of the three speakers on this topic voiced sentiments of support for the LGBTQIA+ community and complained about the Board of Education lots being blocked and expressed intentions to go to the next Board of Education meeting.

After the public comments, Town Councilor, Brian Good, left his seat at the council table in order to speak directly to the audience on the floor. He expressed his support for their community and pride events and thanked them for helping him to get elected and asked for their continued support for the next election.

Fayetteville Town Council meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of each month at 6 pm at Town Hall, located at 125 N. Court St., Fayetteville, WV.  The public is welcome at all meetings, in person or virtually via Zoom.  Agenda and Minutes from previous meetings are available online.

The next Board of Education Meeting is on Monday, July 6, 2026 at 4:30 pm. Their meetings are open to the public and held at 111 Fayette Ave. Fayetteville, WV. Visit their events page for the full calendar.
